Description
Woodrich Brand Timber Oil Clear Advantage has two distinct applications.
It can be used as standalone protection for those who enjoy watching wood go through its natural color shift and take on its characteristic silver or gray patina. Clear Advantage provides lasting protection from water intrusion. Like the rest of the Woodrich Brand Timber Oil line, it dives deep into the wood and fills the empty space where water would go. When that oil eventually weathers out, water finds its way back in. Areas that stay dark and slow to dry after rain are your signal to re-oil.
Clear Advantage can also be used to maintain and preserve wood that has already been stained with one of our 5 stock Timber Oil colors. Woodrich Brand Timber Oil is loaded with transparent oxide pigments. As the finish weathers, the surface color will dull, fade, or oxidize from sun exposure long before the actual pigment and protection wear away. Clear Advantage replenishes the finish and extends the performance of your original application. No stripping. No brightening. Rinse off the dust, let the wood dry, and apply.
Think of a piece of antique wood furniture sitting by a window. When it becomes dull, you don’t apply more stain, and you certainly don’t wait until the finish completely fails from sun damage. The easiest thing to do is oil the existing finish, bring the color back to life, and enjoy several more years of protection.
HOW TO KNOW IT IS TIME
Skip the water bead test. Watch how the wood dries. After rain or a rinse, look for spots that stay dark and take longer to dry than the rest. Those spots are thirsty. They show up first in high traffic paths and full-sun areas. When you see them, it is time to re-oil. The same tell works on decks, fences, wood siding, log homes, and any other outdoor wood.

FAQ
When is it time to re-oil?
Watch how the wood dries after rain or a rinse. Spots that stay dark and dry slower than the rest need oil. They show up first in high-traffic paths and full sun.
Do I need to strip or brighten before applying Clear Advantage?
No. Over an existing Woodrich finish, rinse the surface to remove dust and let it dry. That is all the prep it needs.
Will Clear Advantage change my stain color?
No. It goes on clear over any Woodrich Timber Oil color and brings the color already in the wood back to life.
Why not just apply more of my stain color?
Timber Oil uses heavy trans-oxide pigments that hold color for years. Adding more pigment at re-oil time overloads the surface, and you wipe off as much as stays on. The wood often needs more oil, not more color.
Can I use Clear Advantage on bare wood?
Yes. It fills the empty space in the wood where water would go, while Nature’s Patina turns the surface silver gray. That gray layer protects the wood from UV damage. Prep bare wood the same way you would for any Timber Oil color.
How long before I can walk on it?
2 hours for light foot traffic. 4 hours before light rain. Cooler temperatures and shade slow drying down.
How much do I need?
Plan on up to 150 sq ft per gallon. That is our worst-case rating on dry, thirsty cedar. Wood that still holds its finish takes less.
How do I apply it?
Any method works: brush, roller, pad, or sprayer. Apply to dry wood and wipe off any excess that does not soak in.
Will it crack or peel?
No. It is guaranteed not to crack or peel. It soaks into the wood instead of forming a film on top.
What temperature do I need?
Apply when the temperature is above freezing. It takes longer to dry in cold weather.
What do I use for cleanup?
Mineral spirits.
Can I use it on Ipe, Teak, or other exotic hardwoods?
No. For exotic hardwoods, use Woodrich Hardwood Wiping Stain.
