  1. Kenneth Camp

I enjoyed working with the stain samples. After testing each stain color individually, I then began to play around with mixing different colors. Wow! I hit the grand prize with a 60% honey gold and 40% amaretto mixture applied to pressure treated pine. I have already cleaned and brightened the deck boards and can’t wait to get started with the staining. I’m going to apply the stain to each board individually with a top quality brush. This will take more time, but I feel like I just have better control of the application and perfect uniformity utilizing this method. It’s going to be beautiful. Thanks Woodrich!

  2. Thomas McGrath

Great idea to have sample pack. I would never have picked the color stain that I did. Cost $10 but you get $15 off purchase.

  3. Joe S

Large sample bottles for a very good price. Local stores sell samples for $7 a can. Thought we liked brown sugar from the online pictures, but the samples on cedar scrap changed our minds to Amaretto, more brownish.

  4. Sheri

Excellent sampler and very reasonably priced! I just installed a new deck and am waiting for my scrap wood to dry so that I can see what the Honey Gold and the Brown Sugar looks like on my PT pine. So nice to have this instead of having to commit to a 5-gallon pail before I see what the stain looks like.

The Timber Oil sample colors is an effective way to know how the colors will look on my deck. I plan to order the Brown Sugar color. Kinda wish you had a darker less transparent brown color. I look forward to trying the Timber Oil on my new deck.

Liked the 4 colors and the quantity of each in the sample kit. Product goes on easy.

  7. JMD

I thought the pack of four samples for $10 was a good idea and a good deal. However, we decided we wanted a more brown color instead of golden or red-hued color stain, so we bought a different brand instead.

  8. William Raines

As a small cleaning & restoration company it only makes my life easier when i get service this good. Keep up the great work!

Testing with the color sample kit allowed us to choose our color accurately for our decks. Thought we wanted the cedar, but ended up choosing the brown sugar stain.

  10. Jenna

Samples were great. Glad we got it because we changed our mind of which color to use once we used it on a sample piece of our deck. Going with Western Cedar for the reddish look. Samples had plenty in them as well. More than enough!

Plenty of product to test color tone and application ease.

  • Do I have to apply the brightener immediately after cleaning with EFC-38? What is the maximum time I can wait between cleaner and brightener?

You can apply the brightener right away after cleaning.  If there are puddles of water, try to broom those off before applying the brightener.  There is no maximum amount of time you can wait, as long as you apply the brightener at some point before you stain.

  • Is fence stain application temperature important or not?

Yes. Fence stain application temperature is important. You can apply Timber Oil as long as the temperature is above freezing. The stain will take longer to dry in colder temperatures. On the other hand, you need to apply Hardwood Wiping Stain when temperatures are above 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Does using stains or sealers protect outdoor wood furniture?

Yes. Using exterior wood stains or sealers is an excellent way in order to protect outdoor wood furniture.

  • Which outdoor wood furniture stains will you recommend for pressure treated woods?

You can use either a deep penetrating stain or a hardwood wiping stain on outdoor pressure-treated wood and pine furniture.

  • What kind of wood stains should I use as my outdoor wood furniture stain?

You can use either a deep penetrating wood stain or a hardwood wiping stain on outdoor wood furniture. The penetrating stain will finish more flat where the wiping stain will give the furniture a bit of luster. If your furniture is an exotic hardwood like Teak or Ipe, it is best to stick with the Hardwood Wiping Stain.

  • How long does it take the stain to dry before you can walk on it?

If the temperature is in the 70’s its usually safe to walk across the deck with clean shoes after about 2 hours.  We don’t recommend scheduling any dance parties for at least a day or two.  If the wood is in the full sun, that will help the stain dry a little quicker.  When the wood is in the shade, or the temperature is cooler, it can take longer for the stain to dry.

To replace deck furniture before the wood is completely dry, you can use shoe coverings.  These slip on covers will prevent you from tracking dirt into the finish.

Older wood that absorbs a lot more oil can also take longer to dry.

  • Can the stain colors be mixed?

Absolutely! Woodrich Brand uses transparent oxide pigments. So mixing the colors together is extremely easy.  We offer sample color kits so that you can test our stock colors. You can also experiment with blends to find the perfect color tone for your project.

  • When should a new deck be stained or sealed?

The sooner the better.  A new deck will begin to discolor in  as little as two weeks when  its exposed to the sun.  If pollen spores settle into the grain of the wood, they can become a food source for mold or mildew.  Staining and sealing the wood will help  protect it from the elements.  When protecting new wood for the first time it is usually best to clean and brighten the wood prior to applying any finish.

  • What do you use to clean up? Mineral spirits or soap and water?

Use Mineral Spirits in order to clean up.

  • Is this a solid color stain or semi-transparent?

This stain is not a solid color but rather semi-transparent.
